The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was founded in 1903 and currently represents more than 1.3 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico as the fourth most powerful Labor Union in the United States. To learn more about the Teamsters, visit teamsters.org.

Chartered in 1941, and currently comprised of approximately 2700 members, Local 891 is the only Teamster Local in the GREAT State of Mississippi for United Parcel Service Members. Local 891 is one of only two Teamster Local Unions in the United States to hold jurisdiction statewide for UPS hourly employees. Other than UPS we service members who work at ABF Freight, and T Force Freight. We also have contracts with the Companies of Durham, Ecco-ride, and First Student in the School Bus service industry and Harrah’s and Beau Rivage Casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Local 891 also has Members employed at Andritz in Starkville and Mondelez (former Nabisco). Finally, we have members who work in the Construction (Pipeline and Grand Gulf Nuclear) and Motion Pictures Industries. Local 891 would look forward to organizing at other companies for those employees who want to form a Union to secure better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Local 891 is part of Joint Council 87, an IBT affiliate which incorporates eleven Local Unions from the southern states of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Our History

Local 891 was chartered in 1941 representing mostly truck drivers and dock workers and at one time had 2600 Freight members but due deregulation over time dwindled. UPS first arrived in Mississippi in 1968 and today comprises approximately 2300 members statewide and in eighteen service locations.

Local 891’s Territory

Teamsters Local 891 covers a huge area, all of Mississippi for UPS, and Southern, Central and Northwest Mississippi for Freight and various other crafts in Northeast MS in Starkville and West Point. Our territory for most crafts is highlighted and boundaries on this map:

Member Services

We’re here for YOU. We recognize that we’re only here because of our members. Because of that, we have a dedicated in house team ready to assist you with all of your questions, including Health Care and Pensions. Also, as a Labor Union, we give our workers the power to negotiate for working conditions, improved wages and better benefits.

Relationship Building

We understand the power of relationships. Whether it’s building political capital to further the goals of the Labor Movement at the local, state, and federal level, forming coalitions to help during contract negotiations, or building a Great Team of Stewards who work in concert with our membership, we understand the value of relationships. Through our relationships, we are able to be the champions for a more responsible government, great education, individual rights, and the expansion of individual opportunities
